MTO's annual Road Safety Achievement Awards recognize the outstanding contributions of individuals, groups, and organizations. Here are this year’s winners: Peter Wytka, Executive Director of arrive alive DRIVE SOBER – Professional of the Year Award for his leadership in promoting a culture of preventing impaired driving. Steven McDonald – Volunteer of the Year for his instrumental work in getting the arrive alive DRIVE SOBER message onto social media platforms. York Region’s Intersection Safety Pilot – Initiative of the Year Award for their work in using collision data to implement road safety initiatives that have dramatically reduced collisions and saved lives. Rural Road Safety Committee – Collaboration Award for their Rural Road Safety Sharing the Road with Farm Equipment Safety campaign that brought their safety messages to a wider audience. The Beer Store – Corporate Leadership Award for their policies to promote responsible service and supporting safe communities. Andrew Murie, Chief Executive Officer of Mothers Against Drunk Driving (MADD) Canada – Rob Fleming Divisional Partnership Award for his tireless dedication to promoting MADD’s credibility, brand power and extensive network which has been instrumental in helping to get anti-impaired driving messaging out to the public. Maria Bagdonas – Lifetime Achievement Award for her work as one of Northwestern Ontario’s cornerstone advocates for road safety. David Hobson, Media Officer, Ontario Provincial Police – Lifetime Achievement Award for his work as a creative and relentless trailblazer in promoting road safety initiatives. Congratulations to this year’s winners!

Congratulations to all the winners, your achievements are truly impressive. Tire and Rubber Association was pleased to be nominated for our Be Tire Smart consumer education initiatives including our winter tire safety campaign educating Canadian drivers on the safety advantages of winter tires, and our spring tire safety campaign educating Canadian drivers about important tire maintenance techniques and practices that help reduce risk of tire failures, collisions, and injuries.
